As I mentioned earlier, many companies are beginning to realize how influential and wealthy the LGBTQ community is becoming-they want to take advantage of an untapped market of consumers. The recent growth of LGBTQ marketing simply comes down to money. Why Do Companies Advertise to the LGBT Community? I question if we're being included because companies care, or because they realize how quickly the LGBTQ community's wealth, power, and influence is growing. But I cannot help but feel that supporting the community is now 'the cool thing to do'. I'm happy to see more and more companies openly celebrating their LGBTQ employees, and advocating for the greater LGBTQ community. It's a time to celebrate the people who've risked their lives and the activists who've fought to ensure our community a voice. It's a time to celebrate the strides our community has made in its struggle for social equality. It's a time to celebrate the birth of the LGBTQ social movement with the Stonewall Riots.
